Wheeler Reservoir operated by the Tenneesee Valley Authority is home to a myriad of recreational opportunities. Whether you like to water ski, canoe, sail, fish, swim, hike, photograph nature, picnic, birdwatch or camp, Wheeler Lake KOA at Mallard Creek is the perfect place to spend the day, night or the entire summer.
Our KOA campground is located directly on Joe Wheeler Lake connecting to the Tennessee River. We offer waterfront camping, day use area with sandy beach, pavilions, playground and boat launching ramp. Wheeler Lake KOA is located in the Mallard Creek Recreational Area near Decatur in North Central Alabama.
Our gated camp site area features 56 rv and tent sites with electric and water hookups. A campground store and laundry facility is located at the entrance to the campground. Day Use Area
Just past the campground entrance, our Day Use Area begins with a large paved parking lot. On the lakefront, there is a children's playground with slides, climbing bars, and tire swing. Picnic tables with park-style charcoal grills are scattered underneath the shade trees, and a sandy beach is located at the edge of the swim area on the lake. Restroom facilities are located between the pavilion and the swim area. For your convenience, there is another paved parking lot beside the boat launch ramp
Wheeler Lake KOA has a handi-cap accessible Group Pavilion that offers a large and several small charcoal grills, electrical outlets, and lots of seating space.
The Day Use Area can be enjoyed on an individual basis or rented for large parties. Stop by the office/store to make inquiry.
